The UEFA Champions League (usually referred to as simply the Champions League or less frequently as the European Cup) is an annual football cup competition organised by UEFA since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. It is the most prestigious club trophy in European football.
UEFA awards €3 million to each team that qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, plus €2.4 million for participating in the Group stage. A Group stage win is worth €600,000 and a draw is worth €300,000.
Like the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League is sponsored by a group of multinational corporations, in contrast to the single main sponsor of the Barclays Premier League, the Ligue 1 or Serie A TIM. Gatusso; Scary as kitten?
AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has played down Steven Gerrard's claims that he is a kitten, insisting: "I'm a pitbull."
The two players will meet again in the Champions League Final on May 23, a repeat of the Istanbul finale when the English side came from 3-0 down to lift the trophy on penalties.
Gerrard, instrumental in the Anfield side's extroardinary comeback, belittled Gattuso in his autobiography by claiming that he had very little fear of 'The Snarl' before the 2005 final.
"People rate the Italian for some reason. For me, he is all mouth. He looks aggressive, but he is as scary as a kitten," wrote the Reds skipper.
